Grilling cheese with mashed yellow split peas and herbs

With elements of Nordic cuisine and the excellent full-bodied taste of Taverna Grilling cheese cheese, this dish is a good option if you are looking for an easy and filling everyday meal packed with taste and a mix of textures. Serve this dish as a meat-free meal, and if you want to serve it as a main meal, add a hunk of bread.

Method

Rinse the split peas and boil them in plenty of lightly salted water for 30 minutes.

While they are cooking, cut the cheese into slices approx. 0.8 cm thick and fry in oil in a hot pan until they form a golden crust.

Remove the pan of split peas from the heat, drain and rinse under the cold tap briefly.

Blend the split peas with the juice and zest from the lime, Greek yoghurt and tahini plus olive oil and ½ teaspoon of salt into a uniform mass.

Arrange the dish in layers with the mashed split peas, cheese, pickled red onions and herbs and serve with whole grain bread.
